Kids These Days

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.”
John Cage

Kids These Days

I finally figured out why there are grumpy old men. I am one now! I must learn to embrace this, don’t you think?

It is not that we are shocked at the kids these days. It is that we are annoyed. Annoyed that those darn kids are walking around like they are original. They are not that at all. Generation after generation, they are the same damn kids.

I mentioned before how annoyed I was with Jerry Seinfeld and his show “about nothing”. He is so smug about it! Samuel Beckett covered this ideas way back in Waiting for Godot. In 1953. A play about nothing. Jerry, you are not that fresh or clever. Sorry.

Now I’m on my porch brandishing my cane at the world at this article. Some artist put solar panels on some speakers and dumped them in the Namib Desert and they will play Toto’s Africa non-stop forever.

How about John Cage did it first and did it much better? The ORGAN2/ASLSP concert is in performance right now and is scheduled to end 2640, over 600 years from now. Far more interesting than Toto non-stop; I promise.

I’m telling ya, I’ve seen it all already. Not impressed. Time for a nap.
