“I am blessed beyond reason with women friends.”
Jane Fonda
Book Club: My Pre-Review
I’ve not seen it yet but I’m sure I will. I enjoy a little comedy now and then. Having only seen the trailer, that is an easy conclusion. One visit to Book Club on IMDB can build our anticipation.
What a cast:
- Diane Keaton
- Jane Fonda
- Candice Bergen
- Mary Steenburgen
- Andy Garcia
- Craig T. Nelson
- Don Johnson
- Alicia Silverstone
- Richard Dreyfuss
- Ed Begley Jr.
- Wallace Shawn
This movie is loaded with talent. Collectively I see five Oscar trophies and seven Emmy statues. I didn’t bother to count the endless Golden Globes much less the extensive nominations for Oscars, Emmys and Globes.
Oh boy, the storyline is: Four lifelong friends have their lives forever changed after reading 50 Shades of Grey in their monthly book club.
Old people and sex is sure to make us laugh, right? It’s Complicated and Grumpy Old Men and Something’s Gotta Give and Hope Springs; we see some movies designed for the Baby Boomers who are now advanced citizens. With this cast, we grew up with them too. We knew them when they were hot — and they still are!
But who is this Bill Holderman guy? It is his first time directing. His IMDB listing only goes back five years! Can he drive this Cadillac? His co-writer is Erin Simms; her first time writing a movie. Who knows, maybe they are the next Orson Welles and Woody Allen.
Maybe it is simply a throw-away grocery money movie. Have some fun, don’t work too hard, get a pay check and admire yourself on cable next year. None of these stars have to pad their resumes.
I’m ready: lets all go to the movies!
I’m ready to see it. He has been around film with major stars such as Robert Redford. Hopefully he learned a lot!
