Along the Boise trails
Two women talk on cell phones
Missing the deer tracks
Source Of All Blessings
You bless us with socks.
My feet are always cold, it seems
and socks warm them and I cuddle with myself
under a toasty electric blanket and feel
some disquiet for those who aren’t as happy as I am
at this moment, with two dogs over on the couch,
with my wife talking loudly and happily to someone on the phone
who called her on her birthday
with a cup of hot coffee at my side
and peace in my heart.
At least for this moment
at this time
in this place.
May I never take this moment, time, and place
for granted, again.
May I never miss deer tracks
because I’m talking on my cell phone.
Thank you for warm socks
on cold nights.*
*Thanks to Br. David Steindl-Rast for the inspiration and the format for this, from his wonderful book, 99 Blessings.
